Scribe of Heaven

This autographed photo (which now hangs in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History) had been valued at more than $8 million. It was uncovered in an attic of civil-war era icehouse on Michigan’s upper peninsula in 1947. Sometime in the mid ‘50s it was lost during in the great Chicago fire, where it was on display at mayor’s mansion.

It remained lost for three decades.

After being rediscovered in an abandon locker moments before the Boston Garden was imploded, it was brought on the Antiques Road-Show were it was purchased in a silent auction by a mysterious anonymous bidder who later donated it to the museum.
